How do you tie a knot that holds on elastic cord?

Elastic cord is very smooth and jewelry made from elastic cord is also stressed by stretching the elastic over and over when you have to take the jewelry on and off.

It is therefore important for the durability of the jewelery that you tie a really good knot on your elastic cord. Here the 'surgeon knot' is the best.

The surgeon's knot is made by first placing the right end over the left and twisting it twice around the left end.

The left one is then placed over the right one and the left string is twisted once around the right string and tightened. You can find our guide to tying the best knots here!

It takes a bit of practice to tighten it all up so that the knot and pearls sit perfectly tight. If you want to be extra sure that the knot will hold, you can take what may be on a pin tip of superglue or clear nail polish and put the tiny drop on the knot. Cut the ends of the elastic when it has set.

If you have to make beads with children under 7, elastic string is the best choice. It doesn't require much fine motor skills and usually doesn't require a needle either.

If you need beads for your elastic cord, you can take a look at ours glass beads or ours gemstone pearls.
